How to choose the suit wheelchair for you
For patients with paraplegia, amputation, and
fractures in earthquake victims, wheelchairs are an important tool to help you
improve your self-care ability, take up jobs, and return to society in
different time periods. The first two days I happened to go through a
rehabilitation store and went in and asked. There are more than 40 different
sizes and models of wheelchairs sold in the store. How to choose a suitable
wheelchair for yourself?
Wheelchairs include ordinary wheelchairs,
single-sided wheelchairs, standing wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs, reclining
wheelchairs, racing wheelchairs, and specialized amputation wheelchairs (large
wheel positions are rearward to maintain balance). The ordinary wheelchair is also
divided into a large front wheel for indoor use, a small solid tire for the
rear wheel, and a wheelchair for outdoor use.
The choice of wheelchair should take into
account the nature and extent of the disability, age, general function, and
location. If the casualty can't manipulate the wheelchair himself, you can use
a simple wheelchair and be helped by others. The injured person with normal
upper limbs, the following limb amputation wounded, low paraplegic wounded,
etc., can choose a pneumatic tire wheelchair with a hand wheel in an ordinary
wheelchair. If the upper limb is strong, but the finger is paralyzed, you can
choose a wheelchair with a grip on the hand wheel.
Seat width: the width of the buttocks, 2.5-5 cm
on each side.
Seat length: After sitting back, the back of the
knee joint is 5 to 7.5 cm away from the front edge of the seat.
Backrest height: The upper edge of the backrest
is approximately at the level of 10 cm below the armpit.
If the backrest is too low, the shoulder blade
is above the back of the chair, and the body leans back, making it easy to fall
backwards. If the backrest is too high, the upper limbs are restricted and the
head is forced to lean forward to form a bad posture.
The feet are too high and the pressure is
concentrated on the buttocks.
The foot plate is too low, and the foot cannot
be placed flat on the foot plate, causing the foot to stand.
Foot height: The foot plate is 5 cm from the
ground. If it is a foot plate that can be adjusted up and down, it can be
adjusted to the wounded person to sit up, so that the 4 cm of the distal end of
the thigh is slightly raised, and does not touch the height of the seat
cushion.
The armrest is too low, causing scoliosis.
The armrests are too high, causing shrugs and
limiting shoulder movements.
Height of the armrest: The elbow flexes 90
degrees, the height of the armrest is the distance from the seat to the elbow,
plus 2.5 cm.
For children who are not yet mature, it is
especially important to choose an appropriate wheelchair. Inappropriate wheelchairs
can affect the normal development of your child's future posture.
The seat is too deep to cause a hunchback.
The seat is too wide and will also cause
scoliosis.
The seat is too shallow, the hip pressure is too
high, and the foot is not in the proper position.
The seat is too narrow, affecting breathing, it
is not easy to change position in a wheelchair, it is not easy to sit in, and
it is not easy to stand up. You can't wear thick clothes until winter.
